Great Day:)

I was able to see three patients today horray. 1a, 1B, and a 2 quads of a 4. I was really tired but it was good to stay busy all day. I learned alot and i mean alot on my class 4 I could not believe how hard that calc was I have seen a 4 before and it was not even close to that hard. wow I was beat I think my patient was too. I would ultrasonic and ultrasonic a gain and stuff was comming off but there was just so much. and it was so sub gingival and black so it was awesome to be that deep in the pocket and be able to get stuff out. One thing I should have done was take intraoral pictures cause it was so clean when i was done, it looked beautiful:) I mostly used my graceys they do wonders in deep pocket and they were still super sharp since i just got them for boards. i patient blood sugar was so high it was kinda scary the doctor okayed it but it still made me nervous i keep asking him are you sure you feel okay and he would say yes I feel great but I wanted to be on the safe side. I learned so much and I am so glad I was able to treat this patient before I was done with school cause I learned alot that will help me later in my career.

Phys consults suck

so I am not feeling to productive today i seen a 1 b and did a physician consult for about three hours suckie... I felt so bad cause my patient wanted his teeth cleaned so bad that he stayed the whole time and was not even able to get anything done. but I finally got the fax and we will be good to go for the next visit. but it was a lesson learned so that when I am get in the real world I just may have to do one and now I know how and what I need. bless jamie's heart she let me pass off air powder on her which is not so much fun i remember having to do it last year for someone. and then I got a sealant done wahoo. it comming down to the wire and we are so close I cant wait

Mentor project

I really enjoyed going and doing my mentor assisgnment I didnt learn alot that I didnt already knew what I watched the flow of things and picked the hygienist brain to good tips for when I am in her shoes here in a few months. it made me really excited to start practicing and seeing more patients. I know ill be a little over whelmed at first but I thinking ill start to really get the hand of it after a few weeks. I liked to watch and see how they chart and what their order is in the way they run an appointment. i was really amazed in how well the the doctor and the hygienist both did an oral cancer screening that way nothing was over looked. I really enjoyed this office and hope the next one will be just as good

VA

I had a new experience I scaled well tried to scale a 10 mm pockets it was of been even deeper but that is as far as my probe was going to go. I tlked to the periodontitis and he was so nice and was telling me the plan and when we should really refer to a periodontitis he say when you have a few pockets that are deeper than a 6. if you only have one or two he said that we can usually maintain them by just seeing a hygienist in a regular practice by any moe than that we should really refer. I seen stomitis on the soft palate from smoking it was nice to see in real life since I have only seen it in a book. I cant believe how hard stain is to get off  it sucked and it was not fun. I also had my patient on nitrous and i think I was breathing it in also I got way sick and had to leave, this is weird cause it happened to me last time I used it on a patient too, plus its hard to work around . well thats my day:)

VA

Another 3 patient day again I keep telling myself that they are just preparing me for private practice which is so true, I have to say the that Professor M is so sweet all she does the whole time we are at the VA is give nice comments and tell us how ready we really are for the real world I sure hope she is right. I passed off my nitrous oxide it thought that it was going to be hard since it has been so long since we practiced it but it was pretty easy since the va has it already set up all you have to do it hook one hose up and turn it on and you are ready to go. So that was nice to get that done hopping for another experience my next va trip. all and all the day went great.

Mock

Wow it feels good to be done with the last mock board. I am still terrified for the real thing even though I really have been doing this for two years now. I do think I had a little less stress on this third mock board I have now gotten the paper work down and the tray down I hope it goes this smooth on real boards. I was a little frustrated today cause I missed probing errors not a ton but I did miss a few which I feel like that is something that I can work on and try a little harder not to miss. took process of care yesterday so now one less thing to stress about it feels good to be almost done whaooo!! I am getting excited to see what life brings me next I hope no mre schoolI need a little break:)

Happy Valentines Day:)

It was such a great day today found my board patient which took all morning doing calculus charts and xrays cause he is going to be my mock and board which will be a wonderful advantage to see how well the tarter comes off. one thing I am worried about is that I had a hard time feeling his cej I hope I can find it better once I remove the calculus. in the afternoon I found my class four I cant tell you how excited I was!!!! well he is truely a case of agressive periodontitis and its too the book mobility, major boneloss in the lower anteriors and moderate boneloss in the posteriors. I looked a the bacteria under the microscope and he did not have alot of white blood cells and not much plaque but lots of spirochetes swimming around. and then his red blood cells were very interesting they were not like a cherrio anymore more like a circle with bumps on the outside very strange so it was a sign of the bad bacteria this patient did have and why it was agressive. I hope to see some major improvements at the next visit.

Va Day

Well I was hopping for a produdtive day but I did see two patients in the morning but they both had upper dentures so I didnt get very many quads and they were both one B's dang. My afternoon patient canceled so I was able to give an injection for one of the doctors I gave a Left PSA and an infiltration I dont know why but my left PSA's are so much better than the right I am just opposite of everyone else. the infiltration I went in a little to close to the alveolar crest so she told me to pull out and go more toward the the MGJ and it was alot easier. also the bracket tray was behind me not in front so that was difficult to deal with I actually went over the patient and that was wrong she help be pick it up and go behind the patient so they dont see it as much. lots learned today though.

Mock LA

If I could change one thing about today it would be have patient in the morning and have mock LA in the afternoon that was we would not have so much waiting around. Well I was pretty confident that my injections went really smooth but come to find out I failed both of them I was totally blown away. my IA I was too far laterally and my psa I missed the third angle. so that sucked I just need more practice. my patient in the evening was a returning patient for last semester and was a class 3 whaoo!! so I practiced injections and i guess they went fabulous angles right on. sometimes I think it looks good where I am sitting but them standing over may appear just a little off. who knows though. hope to get more practice in in the next few weeks.

Great day!

I got so much done today I was so happy I got 5 Pe's done, 5 injections used the laser and got 2 quads of a class 3 horray!! I was pretty excited I was hoping that my afternoon patient was going to be at least a class two so I could use him for mockboards but he was a 1B not an easy one very hard one in fact lots of bleeding I even had to get him numb but to help with all tha bacteria I was able to try the laser out which was a great learning experience for me and to see how the patient reacted to it I was not aware that dental insurance would not pay for the laser to be used in private practice and how expensive it really is 100 dollars a quad yikes, I better make sure I take good care of my teeth , haha probably not going to be a problem. but I learned a lot and it was a productive day.

VA

Wow I am wore out and ready to be done for the day Ill I could think about all day was that LA test i have to take on saturday I have studied but butt off for it and so I really hope I can pass it. So I am really not so sure that I learned a whole lote today since I was not focusing that well. but I did see three patient which just baout kills me every week but i guess it is preparing me for real life in a few months. I did she something interesting I was able to treat an individual that has been into drug in the past and has just recently gotten through that point in his life and wants to change for the better very sweet and fun to talk to. but a first I was kinda thinking why did they want me him to get his teeth cleaned when I cant even scale cause their was so many caries on every surface and was a sensitive but once I got going I started to see form a differnt point that maybe that not what they wanted me to do but it was more to educate him on the importance of homecare and how he is really going to have to improve in that  area if he wants to get them fixed cause if he had a hard time keeping them clean now what it will be like when thier is a restoration on every surface with not that reat of margins so plaque will accumulate even more. when I had got done with the appointment I had felt very fortunate to have been able to see this patient I learned alot at will one day help me if  I am faced with a similar situation

Mockboard#2

I learned today that giving an IA by testbook style does not always work I learned to go more toward the Raphe to avoid hitting bone. tried it and it worked beautifully. I was able to give 4 injections which i needed really bad I was strating to get worried for mock LA cause i have not practiced very much. my patient was 20 mins late luckly he had nothing on his health history and we had already taken xrays. when I got done scaling i knew that I had missed a spot I even wrote it down I tried for ten minutes to get it off but it would not come. the calculus was so rock hard and stuck on that it took along time I had to cut into my probing time so I did not do as well of a job as I could have if I had not ran out of time. lesson learned that for boards I only want to scale one quad adding additional teeth just about killed me on time.  when I got the results back I had missed a few probe depths and recession but only one spot the spot I had wrote down. dang it at least I knew that it was still their it was not like i was not filling it. and the reason why I missed it was because I was sitting in the wrong chair position dumb mistake it came right off when I moved to 10 oclock. lots of good things learned next mock hopping for no calculus missed spots.

VA

What a day at the VA, seeing three patients really wears you out. maybe that means that I worked really hard today Ill keep telling myself that. Sometimes I wonder how I am going to do it in private practice after I graduate when I am seeing alot more than three a day. I seen some really amazing patients today I did alot of root debridment and still did not pass the Pe off. dang it!! I also seen a patient from a care facility I was pretty disappointed to find his mouth the the condition that it was in. I polished so I could probe then polished a agian to see even better and then used the ultrasonic to debride the mouth once all of the material alba was gone and I was able to see I was blown away with all the demineralization and cervical carries I guess I was not supprised but It was really sad. part was the patients  doing and not brushing but also the care facility in not offering to help him brush. sad deal:( I learned alot  and it was a a great learning experience. I love my new professor she was so confident in us and so complimenting on our work. it was a motivator for all of us.  it was a good day at the va!!!:)

Last Semester of school

Go back after a long break is always hard!! My first patient had a health history that took me 45 mins to do I looked up like 12 drugs I was at like a page and a half by the time I got it done. What a welcome back to school. haha not. I was struggling hard core for some reason I could not think of to write in the chart I dont know what my problem was. then I was time for xrays and everyone I took I would think please turn out I dont want to do a retake. and luckly they all worked horray one thing that was going good today.  The second patient of the day was a class two I had screened her last semester hoping to use her for mock boards but her calculus was not heavy enough then. but once I got started yesterday I got thinking holy cow this is probably the most calculus I have seen so far there was not a tond thta was supra but sub I was blown away with all of it it just keep comming and coming out awesome!!!! it was actually really fun I missed a few spots which stinks but I really learned alot for this patient. it was a good learning experience all day I guess you could say. Hanson drilled me on the v of my hand and how I need to use it more I always want to use the modified pen graps and it is hard sometimes to get the right angle so next week I am going to try and use it more often rather that stuggling in areas with the modified pen grasp. I also learned to use the sickel and go in after I am done and do a pop motion on the premolars under the contacts to get that last little big. what a good tip.
